There is no currency here, so the shops work in terms of 'first come first serve' in regards to items, and the food is replenished for us by our captors. You'll be able to recover your things without much resistance, I assure you. I assume they were removed to give us the wings they've attached to us, which apparently allow us to adapt and survive here.
As for where we are or how we arrived--that much is a mystery to all of us. There is some sort of barrier around the area, and any attempts to fall it have failed spectacularly. It seems they keep us here to preform experiments, and there's been some fighting with an outside faction on that matter.
In other words, we are test subjects, and this is our holding cell.
